Based in the Ozark Mountains in the city of Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas is the state’s flagship institution of higher learning. Although a comprehensive institution with numerous departments, the school’s best-known programs involve agriculture or business. Thanks to the school’s growing online department, its programming is now available to students around the nation. Among the 27,000 students at the U of A, more than 7,000 currently participate in online programs, including almost 1,700 students who study entirely online. One of U of A’s top online offerings is its bachelor’s of science business administration in general business program. Students complete an extensive array of pre-business coursework, including studies in accounting, macroeconomics, public speaking, and calculus. They must earn a “C” or higher in each of these classes and maintain an overall 2.5 GPA before declaring for the general business major. Once accepted into the program, students progress to more advanced studies in accounting, finance, management, and marketing. The program delivers coursework asynchronously, and the curriculum does not include any in-person, thesis, or capstone requirements. Classes follow a flexible online format within a traditional, 15-week fall and spring semester schedule. Summer classes are optional and available in two, five-week sessions. Students can complete the 120-credit curriculum and earn their business administration online degree in four years of full-time study. The U of A offers the program through its college of business, which recently renewed its national accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. All students in the business administration program, including non-residents, pay the same per-credit tuition rate.
